Robert Joins the Eagle Rank

Robert has been ready for his Eagle Scout Board of Review since 11/27/12 but there is such a wait when it comes to getting district personal out, that we had to wait until 2/21/13 for his special night.

Weeks went by and finally the day came.  Robert dressed in his full uniform, book and Eagle project in hand and headed out the door with his parents.

Each one a bit excited, a bit apprehensive.  We had a small glitch just before the night, but it didn't interfere (we needed another 3 copies of his Eagle Project - which we didn't know until 6:30 pm - so Betsy ran to Office Depot and made copies before heading to the church for the Board of Review).

They started the Board of Review at 7:15 (as soon as Betsy arrived) with the leaders at the front, Larrin Vonwhmee, Billy Phenix and the District Eagle Coordinator, then Robert's Scoutmaster, Zane Underwood, Robert and his parents.  The District Coordinator explained the procedure - parents will leave the room and Robert will be in a interview style meeting for the next hour.  Zane was invited to stay, but not particiapate (I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall, too).  It was also explained to Robert that this was his one and only chance for an Ealge Board of Review.  I think that made him a bit nervous - I can just imagine him thinking - what if I mess up).

Mark and I left the room.  It seemed like forever.  Finally about 8:30 they came out and invited us back to the Board of Review room.  Brother Vonehmee started off by reading the Eagle Challenge (that was a clue).  Then the District Coordinator announced that Robert had made the Rank of Eagle and Congratulated him.  Robert's smile said it all.  He was so happy!  He had done it!

He made the Rank of Eagle Scout before his 14th birthday.  He had worked so hard with such dedication and devotion.  Sleeping in freezing conditions, earning merit badges, and most importantly learning leadership skills.

Robert - we are so very proud of you and this very BIG accomplishment.
