Marissa runs fantastic at Eastern Relays (Friday)

Marissa had only one race tonight:
the 2 mile (3200 Meter run)
Marissa is in lane 1 of the second heat.  It's a great position for her.  She will start from behind but be on the inside lane.
The evening was freezing.  Just before the runners took the track, the breeze kicked in.  Marissa was so cold!
Waiting to start

Coming around on lap 1:  split time 1:20 - amazing!

coming around on lap 2:  split 1:26 - settling into a pace.

finishing lap 3 - clock time 4:15 (amazing)

finish lap 4:  the 1 mile mark at 5:53 - so great!!!

lap 5 she starts taking the lead - 7:27

lap 6 - she is looking very strong 9:00 on the nose

lap 7 - she has gained on the next runner

finishing with an amazing time of 11:57.82
Marissa was only .o2 second shy of breaking the school record
She took 20 seconds off her time for a new PR!!!
Everyone was going crazy - we all thought Marissa broke (or at least tied) the school record until Coach Yanke said she missed it by 2/100th of a second.  That is just so infinitesimally small.  Oh My Gosh.  However, we are so super proud of her for running such an amazing race.
Marissa and Shelby - the two top 2 mile runners!
Shelby also took 20 seconds off her time

Distance Runners and friends:  Emma, Katie, Shelby and Marissa

Marissa runs at NOHS Tri Meet

The NOHS Tri Meet was held on Tuesday, May 24 (only 4 days after the OC Championships).  Marissa's events were the 1600 M and the 800 M.

1600 Meter Run
start - first lap
Marissa took the lead for the entire first lap.

start - second lap

She wasn't passed until she hit the 500 meter mark by two south runners.  Way to go Marissa!  She ran a super strong third lap.

start - third lap

start - fourth lap
She finished the mile in 4th place with a time of 5:43.  It wasn't a PR, but it was great.  She had a tummy ache going into the race but ran through it.  Her next event is only a few away - the 800 Meter open.

after one lap of the 800 M - one more to go

After the first lap, Marissa is leading the NOHS team followed closely by Christina Ausley and Emma Brazeau.  She was very tired, eventually allowing Christina to pass her.  Marissa finished 6th with a time of 2:47 (very good considering her tummy and being tired).
finish of the 800 M

Another great thing about today's meet was that Jessica came to cheer her sister on.  Jessica also ran the 800 M and the 1600 M (1 mile).

The Lowe Ladies:  Betsy, Jessica and Marissa

Marissa ran a 5:43.47 in the 1600m at NOHS Tri-Meet, placing 4th.
Marissa ran a PR of 2:47.28 in the 800m at NOHS Tri-Meet, placing 6th.

Jessica comes home today!!!!

At 9:00 pm when everyone else in Louisville is down by the water front waiting for the Thunder Over Louisville Fireworks Display to start, we loaded our van and headed to the airport for the most exciting event in our day…

JESSICA COMING HOME!!

Her flight was a little late, but no worries.
She sat in the back of the plane and was nearly the last person up the ramp … waiting … waiting.  This is the Lord teaching me patience!!!

I wanted to run down to find her, but couldn't due to our lovely "security" measures.  As soon as she was in sight we (I) went crazy.  I couldn't wait to run up and hug her so tight!  It felt so good to have her back in the flesh.  She was really home (at least for the summer).

Robert and Marissa were a close shadow behind me - complete with major hugs and screams too.  Mark patiently waited his turn.  We are so happy to have her home.  Unfortunately, Devon had to work that night, so he couldn't be with us.

Welcome home Jessica!!!  We love you!

Game vs SKY

Unfortunately our regular goalie got a red card in the last game so he wasn't able to play in this game.  Without him we lost 5-2.  The SKY team had a very talented player that could shoot from far out.  Our goalie missed the first ball on a kick and the ball rolled into the goal.  The second goal was earned.  The rest were slow reactions to kicks.  Robert had a nice assist to Zeb for a goal.

Javanon Cup second game vs SIU Thunder

Another WIN!!!  It was a freezing cold day for the middle of April.  The sun didn't shine, the temperature barely broke 40 and there was a breeze that made it feel more like freezing!  Luckily Robert wore Underarmor for his arms, but he didn't wear his gloves.  Not many of the boys did.

I on the other hand, was freezing, shaking and shivering on the side line taking photos (hoping they weren't too shaky).  It was a miserable day for the spectators.

Robert played a tough game against SIU (Southern Indiana United).  He played Left Defense for the majority of the game, but played some Left mid as well.  He was up and back most of the game.  The boys won 2-0.  It was a great game!

Today was also "Thunder Over Louisville" - it is a HUGE event in Louisville that kicks off the start of the Derby celebration.  Derby is three weeks from today!

Javanon Cup - first game against NORCO

To start with, Betsy had to field Marshall for the tournament starting at 7:00 am.  UGH!  You know, every morning I wake up and can't get back to sleep and then the one morning I need to wake up early, I probably could have slept till 10:00 am.  I was so tired at 6:00 am when the alarm went off.   I had to field Marshall from 7:00 - 9:00 am.

Robert and I got breakfast and headed off for the fields.  He was 30  minutes early, but that's okay.

This will be Robert's first game without his brace.  We will see if it is good or bad to play without it.

Robert's game started at 8:30 am.  They played against a big team from the Western side of St. Louis.  Robert had a great first half!  The score at half time was 0-0.  I was able to watch the last few minutes of the first half and then the rest of the game.  About 17 minutes into the second half of the game, we had a good pass and struggle in front of the goal, and Zeb turned the ball for a shot to score!  He scored!!!  With only 3 minutes left in the game Tanner went down injured, Robert came in for him.  We won 1-0.

Marissa runs in Oldham County Meet of Champions

Long week

Hi,

This week has been a long one for everyone in the family.

Mark had interviews all day Monday, and left for North Carolina on Tuesday morning.

Robert had play rehearsals Monday and Tuesday, Javanon practices and loads of homework.

Marissa had track practice as usual.  Wednesday was the Cherokee Park clean up service project that Devon and Robert went to.

Betsy started and finished the decorating Devon's room.  It required ripping out old wall tape, retaping, sanding, priming and painting.  She took Monday off, for the project, but also planted three bushes and weeded the garden so (needless to say) she didn't finish.  But she had to work the rest of the week.

Oh, my gosh - it was a lot of work.  "I'm so tired from all the work."  She finished Wednesday night (while the boys were at the service project).  Devon slept in teh basement for two nights to avoid paint fumes.  Devon's room looks great now!

Great night at the Track - OC Championships

After a full day of school, Marissa's team will compete at the Oldham County Championship.  This meet is only consists of the three HS teams in Oldham County, Oldham, South and North.  The meet started with field events at 4:30 and running events at 5:30.  Marissa is running the 4x800 relay, the 1600 meter, and the 3200 meter.  OH my goodness.  That's three long distance events in one night.  She's never done this.  Actually, NOHS usually doesn't have anyone do three long distance events.

The first was the 4x800:  The coaches played around with the line up and it backfired on them.  Instead of running Alli first, they ran Emma (whom is injured), then Hannah, then Marissa and Alli was anchor.  We got behind after the first lap and didn't ever catch up.  Most of the girls averaged a 2:42 split.  They finished third with 10:55.
today's 4x800 team:  Emma, Hannah, Alli and Marissa

warming up before the 1600

Marissa next event was the 1600 meter:  She got off to a very fast start taking the lead for the first lap, but then was slowly passed by OC and SO runners.  She ran a great race finishing 6th with a PR of 5:41.  Alli Hall passed her in the last 100 meters to finish 5:36.  Great race by both NO girls.

taking the lead

After the race she said she felt like she was going to throw up.  I hope she's okay for the 3200.

looking at her time as she crosses the finish line
Other events that NO did really well in were the 100 M Hurdles, 100 Meter were both won by Brianne Brown.  The 4x100 and the 4x200 teams placed first.

Lots of Marissa's friends came to support her…Rachel Craig, Matthew Saxey, and her brother, Devon.

after the first lap
Marissa's 3rd event was the 3200 meter (2 mile).  She had a great first lap, poor second lap and then fabulous pacing the rest of the race.

She went from 6th place to 3rd place by the 1 mile mark and then maintained 3rd place the remained of the race closing the gap between 2nd and 3rd and widening the gap between 3rd and 4th.  After 8 laps Marissa finished with another PR of 12:17 and a 3rd place medal.  This was after running two other events.  WOW!  She did it.   I was worried that the extra 800 at the beginning of the meet would take too much out of her to perform well.  I knew she could do the events, I just didn't know how well she would do.  I think her next goal will be to get the mile to 5:35 and the 2 mile to 12:10.
improving with each lap of the 3200 m
still going strong after 7 laps, only 1 more to go

Sprinting the last 100 of the 3200 m
After the race, Alli and Marissa - Alli was so happy for Marissa's PR
Overall the team did fantastic finishing only 6 points behind OCHS (AAA school) taking 2nd place.  The boys track team finished 2nd as well.
