Soccer Regional Playoffs - vs Carrollton

The first REGIONAL game is at Shelby West fields against Carrollton County.  It started late and night came soon, so they played under the lights most of the game.

Mason Rice scored right away.  Robert goes in - 1st half of a Varsity game!  WOW!!!
North scores again!
Robert almost has a header into the goal!
North scores again!  Score at half time is 3-0.

The second half is much more physical.  Robert goes in the 2nd half after only 10 minutes of play.  Robert has a couple key plays where he sets up the ball for a goal.  We score two more times - Robert had 2 shots (or shots on goal).

Final Score 5-0
North advances on to the next round of Regionals

NOHS vs South Oldham for District Championship

WOW - here we go again.  We have to play SOUTH for the District Championship.  The rival between North soccer and South soccer is so deep!  It's crazy!

When these two teams play - red cards fly - and today proved to be no different.  As my dear friend, Maureen said, "It appears to be a very colorful game."  Meaning, lots of yellow and red cards.

South is the first to score - yikes - They do so in the first half.

We follow it up with a goal in the second half

With some very aggressive play, the game ends 1-1.  We go to overtime.  Over time doesn't produce any goals by either team.  It goes to a PK shot out.

A south Player gest a RED card - wow!  But oh no, so does JP Middleton.
We lost the advantage.

Seth Junion is ready!
This proves to be one of the longest PK shot outs I've ever seen.
We go to the third round (5 from our team, 5 from theirs)
(5 more from our team, 5 more from theres)
and now it's sudden death situation.  South blocks our kick, South makes their kick, we can tie it, but we are blocked - after 12 kickers South wins.

NOHS vs OCHS for District playoff

This was a cold night with a slight drizzle coming down most of the evening.  The game took place at South Oldham High school and started at 7:00 pm.  We played on the astroturf field under the lights.

Quickly the game had a twist of events that would forever be remembered.  Bradley Dean was ready to receive a ball, but the goalie was out of the box and used his hand to control the ball.  The goalie was ejected from the game (red card) so OCHS had to play us a man down the rest of the game (ironic since we had to play them a man down the last time we played them).  Well, we quickly capitalized on it.  Bradley Dean scored on that run.  Keyon scored, and Mason Rice scored.

It continued in the second half - Bradley scored another goal, and Mason Smith scored.  The score is 5-0.  With only 8 minutes left in the game the coach tells Dylan Smith and Robert Lowe to warm up. Robert and Dylan get to play the last 5 minutes of the game, with Robert receiving the ball, making an excellent pass to Dylan Smith for the winning goal - Wow, only in the game 5 minutes and Robert earned a Varsity Assist!  Way to go Robert and Dylan!!!

The game ends 6-0.  We advance to the District Finals!

2014 Fall Break

Even thought it was FALL BREAK - it wasn't much of a BREAK for my kids.

Marissa had XC practice and work at Tinseltown almost every day of the break.

Robert had Regional soccer games in Shelby County

Betsy had to work at Proheat.  Luckily Jessica was home from her mission and could be home with Robert and Marissa while they were home.

She was very helpful to Betsy getting Robert to the school to catch the bus for Regional games.

Monday was the first regional game - vs Carrollton County. - WON 5-0
Tuesday was the second regional game - vs Shelby County. - WON 5-3

Wednesday was a day off from soccer, but it was a good day for Betsy to meet with her lawyer to firm up things with her will.  She wanted to make sure everything was in order for the trip she is taking to the Philippines (just in case).

Thursday was the Regional Championship game - vs South Oldham - We lost

Friday was volunteer night - Mark in the Temple and Betsy at the NOHS football game.

Saturday - Robert ran in the Central KY Meet of Champions in Elizabethtown and helped his team take 1st place while Marissa took the ACT at Waggener High School.

Not much FUN for this Fall Break - but very productive and very sports oriented!

Robert's Court of Honor - On My Honor Awarded

Tonight at 7:00 pm (despite massive amounts of homework) was the Crestwood 1st Ward's

Court of Honor
for Troop 170

There were lots of awards - merit badges for all the accomplishments at scout camp over the summer, and a bunch of rank advancements.

Robert was presented with 6 merit badges - oceanography, athletics, mammal study, leatherworks, sculpting, and one more.
As a Varsity scout he was presented his Basketball Varsity Pin.
Robert with his Second Bronze Palm

5 boys and 4 adult leaders earn the 50 miler

He was also presented with his second bronze palm = 41 merit badges earned as a scout.
Trevor Underwood and Robert receive their Second Bronze Palm

Lastly, he was presented his "On My Honor" award.  In order to earn this you have to have earned your Duty to God at either the Deacon, Teacher or Priest Level and achieved the rank of Star.  Robert actually earned this award a year and a half ago, but it was overlooked.

Unfortunately, tonight Robert was supposed to be awarded a few more things that were overlooked, forgotten or whatever... one being a very BIG award.  Robert was supposed to also earn his Soccer Varsity Pin and his Cycling Varsity Pin (from last year), but the BIG award that was supposed to be presented to him tonight that was overlooked was his Varsity Denali.  The Varsity Denali is equivalent to the Eagle Scout but in the Varsity program.  I have to admit that I was very disappointed!!!  I had arranged for Jessica and Marissa to come to the court of honor just to see him receive this award.

Devon - Week 19 - Happy Halloween

This last week we asked Camren if he would be baptized he said yes.  His Grandma said, “no.”  So he will not be baptized anytime soon. :(  But we can always pray for and expect miracles.  We are still teaching him and he is still progressing.  Whenever he is baptized he will be ready for it.

Conrad is still having baptism.  One of our part member families had a massive Heart attack.  It has caused him to look at his life from a different perspective.  I think he will start moving his life in a better direction.  He wanted to read the book of Mormon and come to church.

This week has felt weird or off. I have not felt the spirit as much as I usually do this week.  So I have been trying to figure out why and I think I know what I can do better at so that I can feel the spirit more.  I am excited for Elder Gogoy of the seventy to come and teach us.  He had a good talk in general conference about patriarchal blessings.  I am so grateful for what the Lord has done for our area and for people we work with. Without the Lord and savior we would have no success as missionaries not even if you tried your hardest because the Holy Ghost does so much for missionaries like find people for them and teaches them that the gospel is true.  As missionaries and also as Disciples of Christ we should have an attitude of Gratitude like Elder Uchdof spoke about.

We dug a grave for a member’s dog that was interesting and a cool (in the different way) experience.  It was 3 feet deep and 3 feet wide and long.  I felt bad for them as they were crying when they found their dog dead, but we were able to help them cope with it.
can you tell it's getting close to Halloween :)

Devon - Week 18 - Pre Halloween Celebrations

Last week I told you about Camren the friend of the Terry's. Well this week we went to the Terry's and taught him at the Terry's.  It was the best Restoration lesson I have ever taught.  When finished the Joseph Smith experience and then we started talking about the Holy Ghost.  We asked him if he knew what it was and then started explaining the Holy Ghost.  Then Sister Terry started to explain the feeling of the Holy Ghost.  I then felt that I should ask the rest of the family which consists of the Parents Chris and Marilyn and part of the Kids Ethan and Shawn to share an experience that they had with the Holy Ghost.   Both Br. Terry (Chris) and Shawn started crying as we went around sharing experiences that we had with the Holy Ghost.  Then out of no where the rest of the Kids came up Alicia, Zach, James, and Aubrey from the basement.  In a house with a lot of kids it is hard for the house to remain quiet.  The kids came up and just froze because the spirit was so strong.  The spirit was so strong it silenced them.  I know that everyone in that room felt the Spirit, even Camren.  It was a happy feeling and Camren liked it.  We finished the lesson and told him to read and pray from the Book of Mormon to find out if the Church is true.  He said he would.  Both me and Elder Crowley felt that we should ask him to baptism but we also didn’t know if he had his guardian consent.  I regret not asking him if he would want to be baptized. "I need to fear God more than Man."

Look we carved pumpkins.  Guess which one I carved?

That’s cool about Grandfather

Lexington Catholic Invitational - GREAT DAY!!!

It was an early morning on Saturday, October 18th, to catch the bus, but then the girls could sleep while on the hour and a half long bus ride to Lexington.  This race is run at the Kentucky Horse Park - it's a famous place ... very easy to get to but very busy and crowded.  This is a huge race - is a mock up of the state championship!

It's also a big day for the boys.  Robert will be running JV (but he doesn't want to - very verbal about not wanting to run - we aren't making him run but we are making him go to the meet and support the other runners on his team if he chooses not to run).  He wasn't happy about running.

The Girls race started at 10:15.

The Varsity girls cross country team took off with a bang - they got a great start!!!

I was able to get around the race field easily with the camera.  Each position the girls were in a great spot - especially Erin, Avery and Marissa.

Marissa just before the mile mark
Erin Edmundson finished in eighth place running a 19:48.39 quickly followed by Avery Fryman 20:14.77 in 14th and Marissa Lowe and 23rd with a 20:49.68 – all three runners before the 21 minute mark.

Avery, Maddie, Grace, Christina, Marissa and Coach Sykora

top 3:  Erin Edmundson, Marissa Lowe and Avery Fryman

Seniors:  Christina Ausley and Marissa

My amazing runners:  Erin, Marissa and Avery

Caitlyn Roberts, Jesse Sanders finished next for north to be the top five. Closely finishing right behind Jesse was Christina Ausley, Erin Olsson, Kendall Lemons and Madilyn Priddy.

As a team they took 4th place took fourth place overall against a very competitive field.  It such an important race because it is run on the state course and many schools that are going to be in the 2A state race will race today.  Two of the top four teams were single A, so they will not race against us at STATE - which means we took second.  We need to work on this - there is a chance we could take 1st, most likely 2nd or 3rd - the race is soon close.

To our surprise Robert decided to run with his team.

He got a great and I mean great start to the race and lead the way up the hill.  He stayed in the top 50 the whole race.  First for the North Team was Luc Brazeau and then Robert.

Robert and Luc Brazeau right up front

Robert leading the way for North

Mark Scherer just passing Robert to lead for North, with Robert right on his heals

The weather was chilly but that didn't seem to deter Robert.  He was driven to do well.  He stayed up in the front of the race with about another 50 boys.
As he came to the last 800 meters of the race he continued to stride, and pass others.
Robert finished the Lexington Catholic with his best time of the year so far on the hardest course of the year so far.  He finished 40th with 18:43 finishing 2nd for our team, just behind Mark Scherer at 33rd.  WAY TO GO ROBERT!!!

Oldham County Championship Meet

Finally, Marissa has had some time to rest and sleep.

Today's meet is on a Wednesday after school.  I wish Robert would Run this race - it's a great night - but he said he had too much homework.

Marissa has a smile on her face.  I think that is the first time she has looked happy in a race this year.  She, Erin and Avery run together the first mile - they look great.  She looks strong.  The course is a loop that the girls run twice and then end on the track.  Marissa runs her second best race of the season finishing in 6th place with a time of 20:42.

She, Erin and Avery received trophies.

It was so good to see her happy again!!!

The team took lots of fun photos after the race because it was the last race for some of the JV runners.  Too fun!!!

Devon - week 17 New Place, New Investigators, New Excitement

This week the mission fasted for new investigators last Sunday.  I already have a very strong testimony in the power of fasting but the experience I had strengthened it more.  I believed that Heavenly Farther would give us some investigators some time this week or mouth.  At church we received two new investigators from members that brought and will bring them to church next week.  Both Investigators are interested about what their member friends believe!!! I can’t believe the Lord answered the fast so fast.  I had only stared the fast a few hours before getting two new investigators on the same day.  I have never got two I have meet or contacted one of them last Sunday.  His name is Camren he is 13 and a cool kid.  I have seen him before, at the dinner table or the Terry's home.  He is a friend of Ethan Terry, he is also a cool kid.  The Terry family really likes us and I think Camren likes us too.

Conrad is still progressing.  Brandi still has to wait until June to get baptized but she is doing okay.  I have more investigators with Crowley but more lessons with Bodine.  Both of them are great missionaries.  I feel more peace now that Elder Crowley knows the area pretty well.  I really liked the meet the Mormon movie and I am grateful that we got to watch it.  I have recommended the movie to members and for them to invite their friends to the movie as well.  A member showed me a negative news article about the movie.  I think it was written by an anti Mormon journalist because of the language he used.  The movie is still great you guys should watch it.  I know that the Lord will strengthen you and help the people you fast for.  There is a power behind Fasting, I have felt it.  I know the Lord helped direct those investigators to us because of the mission fast.  I hope that you all have a great week.

We also were transfered to a new apartment that is further out of our area.

Homecoming Dance

For Marissa's senior year she decided to go to homecoming with her friends.

She went dress shopping with her sister earlier and found a beautiful dress and jewelry to accessorize the outfit.

Saturday afternoon the girls got ready and then met at Kelsey Hall's house for photos!  It was Mallory Price - Homecoming Queen, Emma Brazeau, Caroline Butler, Makenzie Mullin, Kelsey Hall, Marissa Lowe, Kelsey Wohlgemuth, and Katherine.
Mallory, Emma, Caroline, Makenzie, Kelsey H, Marissa, Kelsey W, and a friend
These girls have been friends for the longest time - middle school and some earlier.  Emma was one of Marissa's first friends. Mallory was chosen as Homecoming Queen at the football game the previous night!  Everyone was so excited for her.  Katie Walker and Christina Ausley were also in the homecoming court - all three cross country runners!

Marissa had a wonderful night out with her friends.  It started with dinner at Qdoba (go figure) and then off to the dance.  I'm sure there is more to the story, but I'm the mom ... well, it's just not the thing to tell me ALL about it ... but I sure am glad she had a wonderful fun and safe time!

Homecoming Game

Homecoming Game is always such a fun event!

Marissa and Robert got ready and left for the game early.

Marissa tail gated with her friends and painted up in spirit to support the North Oldham Mustangs!

It was a great game ... well, it was a blow out ... we had a massive win!  Everyone was excited but the best part for Marissa was that one of her best friends, Mallory Price was named Homecoming Queen.  Marissa's other friends, Katie Walker and Christina Ausley were homecoming princesses!

What a special night for the group!!!

Spirit Week continues - TUESDAY - Luau Day

Tuesday was perfect for our family since I have tons of stuff for Hawaii. AWE!  Aren't they so cute!

Ironically, Marissa wore that same exact grass skirt when she was about 7 years old.  Look at how perfect they the match is...

Look how much they have grown up.  You can't tell but Marissa is now 5'6" and Robert is taller than her - wow!!!  My kids are growing up.
