29 ACT

Jessica took the ACT in February and just got the results back...

YIPEE!!

Her composite score was 29.

She is SO excited! BYU Provo - here she comes...hopefully!

So proud of your efforts, Jessica - you've worked so hard!!!

Working Temporarily Full Time

As if I didn't think life was busy enough, I accepted a Permanent Sub job covering for someone on maternity leave starting 2/15...for 6 weeks...
Well,
She was induced a week early, so I started 2/8 (one week early). She had a cesarean so now she is out 8 weeks.... okay
Well, a few days ago, I was asked if I could stay on for 4 more weeks. Of course, I said yes. I love the work, and I enjoy being in the high school environment.

However, I still have to somehow cover my non-paid volunteer obligations...
PTSA at the middle school
Banquet for the high school basketball team
Find MOY and YM for AMI
AMI state meeting in April
Attend AMI National meeting at the end of April
get 5th grade essay (state contest) judged
get 5th grade essay (national contest) judged

AND BE A MOM, cook, taxi driver, cuddler, nurse, secretary and budgeter...

Lucky for me the banquet is tomorrow (check that's off my list), the judges are done with the state essays, and almost done with the National essays (another check)! Things are coming along!!!

Robert's first campout

On Friday, March 26, 2010 Robert went on his first BOY SCOUT campout.

He, Devon and Mark joined nine other boys from their troop, plus two more leaders for a overnight campout at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve.

They hiked, cooked dinner, made a campfire, pitched tents and had a fabulous time. Hopefully they will get some sleep.

Sweet dreams

Triple Crown - second leg - Rodes Run 10K

Mark ran in the Rodes Run 10K on Saturday, March 20, 2010. His goal was to run it in less than 8 minutes a mile. Well, he well out did himself.

Mark's final time was 46:03. That is so close to a 7:30 minute mile!

Congratulations Mark on a fabulous RUN!

Next stop in the Triple Crown - 10 miles.

Champions - Spring Thaw Tournament

First game: 99 FLYERS: (I didn't bring my camera SD card - I was so sad).
Robert had a great game: we finished 7-1 (Max had 3 goals, Mason 2, Robert 1, and Jackson 1)

Second game: Carmel BLUE (again no camera)
It was a VERY physical game. Mason was kicked in the mouth while holding the ball as goalie. The team had some dirty tricks. Even with that, the game was a tie 0-0.

Third game: Javanon Red. Finally I had a chance to get my SD card. Robert and the whole team had a great game against this team. Final score 4-1 (the one for them was by us)
Robert scored, Parker, Mason and Jackson) Great effort by everyone!!!

Championship game: For the Championship game we played Carmel BLUE again. We had 2 wins and a tie (against them), they had 2 wins and one tie (against us). It was a constant battle for the ball, but at least this time their players played a fair and decent game. Robert game a huge effort. We were the first to score in the first 1/2.
Carmel scored a goal mid way through the second half. It was a race to see who could score next. Neither team did. The game finished 1-1 ... so it went to a PK shoot out. 5 shots each team. Mason was our goalie.

Against us: Us kicking:
too wide Parker scored 0-1
Mason blocked Tyler scored 0-2
too wide Logan kicks too soft 0-2
They score They block 1-2
Mason blocked Mason scored 1-3 (We win)

Robert is so happy they won the whole thing:
Tournament Champions!
The team: Coach Rock, Logan, Parker, Mason, Matthew, Max, Noah, Ben and Holden
Front: Eric, Robert, Tyler, Andrew and Jackson
Robert Lowe - U11
Loves to play soccer!

Prom Dress Shopping

Unbelievable - Not really, but yes - another first for this mom to overcome. Jessica needed to go Prom Dress shopping for the Junior Prom.

She found a beautiful dress and shoes. She is so excited.

No pictures yet - can't give it away.

Marissa's 13th Birthday

Girl's Just Want to HAVE FUN!
Marissa had so much fun with her good friends from NOMS...McKenzie, Kelsie, Marissa Y., (her), Mallory and Amber.

The party started at Qdoba Mexican Grill for a delicious dinner. Then the girls went shopping around the Summit. What a blast - watch out stores.

That was followed by a trip home to have ice cream cake from Dairy Queen and open presents.
Kelsey, Marissa Y. and Marissa!
It's so strange that Marissa would meet another young lady (the same age) that spells her name the exact same way.
Marissa is officially a teenager - 13 years old!!!
Shopping is their favorite thing: Hollister, Bath and Body Works, American Eagle, Abercromie, Francescas, DSW, and more.

Triple Crown - first leg - Anthem 5K

Yes - We did it. Here's the story...about 8 days ago Mark decided he wanted to run the three races that make up the Triple Crown (5k, 10k, 10mile). He asked everyone in the family to run with him. I decided I would run with him (but found out I am out of town for the second race), so I decided to register for the 5K race (and take it from there). Mark registered for all three. Jessica did like me and registered for the 5K race. I had six days to train - what was I thinking.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday I trained, but didn't have time on Thursday and Friday...YIKES! Would I be ready?
Mark and Betsy before the race!
Jessica and Betsy after the race!

There were 8,515 participants in the race....Somehow we got separated at the start - Mark and Jessica were in the very front, but I was further back. They did great! Mark finished in the top 500 - he came in 470 out of 8,515. He finished 30th in his age division running about a 7.5 minute mile. Jessica came in 611 out of 8,5,15 - 5th in her age division and just a few seconds behind Mark. I kept my pace and finished 134th in my age division.

Before the race I just wanted to finish. After running the race I wish I had pushed myself harder to get a better time. Since I had never run in a race and can't ever remember running over 3 miles, I wasn't sure what to expect. I worry too much - my asthma, the crowd - could I make it without stopping? I did it! I was hoping for better than a 10 minute mile - and I did! I came in under 10 minutes per mile. Usually, I can run a 8 minute mile, but just for one mile. Now I have a goal to improve!

I can't imagine running double that distance in two weeks. Good luck Mark!
