I've been on the Scout Committee for a while - my job is Advancement Chairperson. I love my position for several reasons, but most of all I like encouraging the scouts to keep progressing and I love seeing them receive recognition for all their hard work. We have Court of Honor on Wednesday, October 12.
For the past two weeks I have been working with the Scoutmaster and the Scout Committee Chairperson to organize scoutmaster conferences, and Board of Reviews in preparation for the COH. We held 12 Board of Reviews over the past 12 days. We haven't had a COH since scout camp so this is going to be a huge one - the scouts will be presented with merit badges, special awards and rank advancements. Overall there are approximately 125 merit badges being given out. For each of those I have to receive the blue card, record it in Troopmaster, record the date and inital, copy the accomplishment onto a BSA Advancement Form, fill out a Merit badge card, shop for the merit badge, and attach the merit to the card, file with the blue card. It's a lot of organizing considering we have 26 scouts and most of them earning at least 4 merit badges. In addition, I organize the rank advancements. They require the Scoutmaster conference, BOR, record in Troopmaster, record on BSA Advancement form, shop for patch, pin and rank card, assemble card with patch and pin. I also keep track of special recongnitions. This time we have six scouts receiving the World Conservation award, 7 receiving Fireman Chit, and 5 receiving Totin Chip.
I also prepare the awards for the Varsity and Venture scouts. We had quite a few pins, letters, and special awards for them as well.
It is a ton of work orgainizing all the boys awards, merit badges, rank advancements and special recongitions, but it is so worth it!
