Devon Runs a great race

Devon's day started over six hours before his race.  Kinda crazy.  He had to be up, ready and at the school by 6:00 am for the bus ride to the Kentucky Horse Park.  The boys Varsity was at 9:30, then they had a long wait for the JV.  The JV race started promptly at 12:00.  Devon didn't get a great start; he got sandwiched in the middle of the pack.
It's much harder to work your way to the front when you have to work around so many people.  At one point in the race we counted him in 46th place, but by the time he came back (from the second paddock) to the first paddock he was around 30th.  That's quite an improvement.  He was working so hard to get up to the front.

In the end he was flying, sprinting to the finish line were he finished in 28th place with a time of 19:32 (4 second improvemement from last time).  He was the 5th runner for the JV team, meaning his place counted for points.

The JV team came in 4th place, but they ran against several AAA teams.  It was a great race.  Everyone stepped it up.  Danny, Justin, Andy, Devon - so proud of all the guys!

By the time I got over to the finish area, I was surprised to see Devon surrounded by a bunch of St. X runners.  I have no idea what they were talking about, but the fact that he was engaged in conversation with runners from another team was interesting to me.

After the race, Devon drove them home while I took Robert to his soccer game.  He still had a long night.  He had to come home, shower, relax and get ready to work the 5:30 - midnight shift at Tinseltown.  Mark took him (since Betsy was at Robert's game) but Betsy picked him up.  Very long day!
