Marissa's Team takes 1st Place at Lexington Catholic

Saturday was an exciting day filled with cross country and soccer.  Marissa is nervous about her run because her ankle has been hurting since Thursday when they did five 800's on the track.  She might have strained her Achilles' tendon. She's been taking good care of it since then; it felt good Friday night.  We hoped she'd be okay.
Marissa's Varsity team is the first event of the day (for us).  Her race is at 10:30 at the Kentucky Horse Park.  She gets a great start to the race.  This course is difficult.  It's an uphill start (sprint) around a corner down a tiny bit, loop back up and then a long run down, across and then back up the first hill to the very top.  Then a U turn to the other paddock for a fast down hill run, across the bottom and back uphill again.  Then a myriad of maze paths that ends going uphill again and across the top into the first paddock.  Then a turn to come down hill, across the bottom again, and then to finish going uphill (again a sprint uphill).
determined to finish hard!
It's colder than the first time she ran here.  She is in a good position the entire race and comes up the hill right behind Shelby Adams (from her team).  Marissa finishes with strength and determination.  She finished 18th (out of 220) and recieved a medal.  Her time was 21.32, 15 seconds faster than the last time she ran here).  That's awesome!  But she is still upset.  This is the first race of the season that she didn't earn a PR.  She doens't understand that you can't compare a flat race course to one of the most difficult and hilly courses in the area.

Actually everyone on the Varsity team did great.  There were runners ahead of us.  Shelby finished first for NOHS in 16th place, but then Marissa was just 2 behind her in 18th.  Caitlin came in 26th and Christina came in 2 behind her in 28th place and Emma was just behind her in 32nd.  The girls WIN the race - they came in first place!

Meet Champions!  Congratulations!
