Today was by far the worst day I've had in a very long time. It started out with the promise of being a super great day.
1. it's the Friday before fall break - what could be bad about that?
2. today was girls basketball tryouts at NOHS - Jessica is so excited for the season to start
3. I am doing a surprise breakfast for the girls team (since try outs are at 6:00 am)
4. I am subbing at the kid's school - love that
5. Boys excited to go to the Centennial BSA Jamboree
All wonderful things - well, it didn't quite go as expected.
1. It was the Friday before fall break but about 1/4 of the girls at NOMS were breaking dress code today and it really got on my nerves. I must have spoken to 20 girls that their skirt was too short, or their top was too low.
2. Within the first 10 minute of tryouts Jessica twisted her ankle because the coaches had them run on a black track at 6:15 am without lights - it was pitch black outside and she couldn't see her footing.
3. I found this out at 7:30 when I showed up with the girl's breakfast. The girls loved their
breakfast (Good thing), but I was quite taken back when I opened the gym door to see Jessica
sitting on a chair with her leg up, wrapped and covered in ice bags. Oh no!
4. As I mentioned above I love subbing, but I do not enjoy seeing kids trying to break the school rules; I also don't like (even more so) administrators and teachers that don't enforce the rules. Rules are their for a reason and by ignoring them the teachers are teaching the kids it is okay to break rules.
4.5 - this wasn't even on the agenda but I'm so upset - I must vent. Marissa works very hard to always do her homework. There isn't a day that she doesn't do it. Well, today she went into her Algebra class, pulled out her homework and started checking her answers from those that were WRITTEN on the board. The teacher came over and crumpled up her paper and took it ways saying she should have already done her homework. I'm outraged! She accused before she even questioned!!! Marissa later explained the situation and the teacher returned her homework for credit, but without comment. It upset Marissa so much - this is the second time this teacher has done this. Time for a visit.
5. The boys didn't get to go to the Jamboree for a few reasons: 1) I was at Jessica's doctor's appointment until 6:30 p.m. (after drop off time - and no body offered to pick them up). 2) Mark called to tell us he was being admitted to the hospital. WHAT!!!
6. So, while I am at Jessica's 2 1/2 hour doctor appointment I have no idea how I am going to get Devon home from CC practice and be at Jessica's appointment. I am frantic texting him, calling around to no avail. I have to figure a way for Devon to get home. Luckily, at the VERY last minute a boy on his team says he can bring Devon home. Thank goodness for small
miracles.
7. Okay, so now to address Mark's issue. Mark has had some problems with his left elbow over a long period of time. He's had to have it drained on several occasions. Well, on Tuesday I noticed that his elbow was RED (and I mean swollen and RED). He went the next day to the
doctor to discover it was infected. He was put on antibiotics and told to come back in two days if it didn't get better...it got worse. SO, his doctor told Mark he couldn't see him but to go to the ER room at Baptist Hospital. The doctor there immediately called for the orthopedic surgeon to see Mark. Then, that doctor explained that Mark needed to be admitted to the hospital, be put on IV and would probably require surgery the following day. WHAT! Okay, I find this out while I am waiting for Jessica's X-rays to be review and trying to get Devon a ride home.
CHAOS!
Poor Mark - he hates the doctor's office and hospitals
To end this "worst" day. We leave the doctor's office, get food, go to Jessica's work to let them know she can't work for the next two days. I then drive home, feed the kids, get Jessica medicine and set up to elevate her leg, and ice it. I load the other kids in the car to visit Mark. I realize in our rush we leave Mark's over night bag (wasn't that one of the reasons we were going to see him...) anyway, when I pull into the driveway there are two huge dogs loose. Devon jumps out of the car and says, "Those dogs are vicious. I need to catch them - come on Robert." WHAT! Well, Devon was gone before I could stop him and he retu
rned with bite marks on his arm.
CRAZY! We clean him up, antibiotic, sting spray, etc. and try again. This time get in the car and don't get out. We finally get to the hospital, visit Mark, share with him the kid's stories for the day before getting kicked out because visiting hours are over.
The ugly red infection
Mark at the hospital
Marissa (and everyone else) trying to cheer him up
What I'd like to say is how grateful I am that it wasn't any worse. Mark or Jessica could have called to say they were in an accident...Jessica will recover, Mark's elbow will be fixed and the Lord LIVES! We are home safe, sound, and ready to turn in for the night.
Here's to hoping tomorrow is a better day!
Wow Betsy! What a day!! When it rains it pours!!! Hope tomorrow is better! haha
ReplyDeleteWow, what a crazy day! I hope Mark's elbow is okay and Jessica can get back on her feet and make the team!!! My husband has lots of crazy school stories to swap with you! (He's a 7th grade math teacher and he subbed a lot before he started teaching!) I hope you have many better days ahead!
ReplyDeleteMark is home from the hospital - he came home Sunday. He will probably have surgery on Friday. Jessica is taking it very easy.
