Red's Game vs St. Louis Cards

Okay, so since this is Spring Break, I plan to make it fun for the kids even though we didn't go away.

Marissa ended up working every day of the week - bummer for Robert and me, but she's happy to be making money and she says working distracts her from her swollen cheeks (which are going down slowly day by day)

On Tuesday, I took Robert over to Ryan Danehy's house to play soccer with friends.  They went up to the North fields and had a great time!  Robert and Ryan are great friends even though Ryan now attends St. X.

On Wednesday I was going to take Robert and Ryan to a Red's game in Cincinnati but the weather forecast called for rain so we decided not to go... but rather go the next day (better forecast).

On Thursday, the weather changed in the unfavorable forecast of our day's plans.  I had already purchased the tickets for the 12:35 game of the Reds vs St. Louis Cards in Cincinnati at the Great American Ball Park, except it was pouring rain accompanied by lightning and thunder.  UGH!

At 8:30 I tried to return the tickets but I had to wait until 9:00.  At 9:00 I called to cancel or reschedule the game, but after 45 minutes discovered they would not refund them, nor would they exchange them for a later date unless the game was called.  UGH!  What to do.  I really don't want to drive  one and a half hour to two hours to Cincinnati for a game that might not happen or be rained on the entire time, but I spent $100 on tickets and it would be a waste to just not go... what to do.  We asked Ryan and he said - LET's GO!!!

At 10:00 we left the home and headed up to pick up Ryan.  We were on our way, driving through the rain and thunder all the way up.  We arrived at the ball park in perfect time if the game was going to start on time, but it was indefinitely delayed!  What does that mean... how long can they make us wait.

One hour goes by
Two hours go by
Three hours go by
RAIN   RAIN   RAIN   GO AWAY !!!

Walking and walking

Playing in the rain - Robert is soaking wet

Waiting for the game to start

We went all the way up to the very back row to wait under cover

LOOK THEY ARE UNCOVERING THE INFIELD!!!

We moved back to our real seats

Robert, Ryan and I made the best of it.  We found some fun places to eat, and some fun activities to do while we walked around the field over and over again.  I feel like I must have walked 5 miles with all the ramps I have gone up and down, or the number of times we walked back and forth on the terrace level.  We looked in a number of shops, but still the game was delayed.

Finally at 3:45 they announced that the game would have the first pitch at 4:15  YEAH!!!!
The game starts!!!

GO REDS!!!
In the second inning the REDS score 3 runs off of 2 home runs!!! AWESOME.  Then the CARDS inch back 2 run in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th, and another in the 5th.  Then the REDS hit a home run with 2 on base - 3 more runs.  Score 7-6 - the Reds are down by one run going into the 9th inning.  Cards are at bat - 3 up, 3 away ... AWESOME!  Now our time to score - but NO.  First up, out, Second up, out, third up, out.  BUMMER we lost 7-6.

As soon as the game was over the rain started again.  It was nice to have a clear 4 hour window time for the game.  I got the boys food on the way home.  We arrived home around 10:00 pm.

It was a 12 hour day!
