NOMS XC Scores a Near Perfect

Saturday Morning started with getting Marissa up and out by 7:30 for a meet at Martha Lane Collins in Shelbyville, KY.  She and the rest of the Varsity team would not be racing today.  They would just do a hard workout.  The South Oldham girls ran in the Hillbilly.   The state championship will be between South, North and Highlands.  At the moment South is expected to take it (92), North next (100) and Highlands right behind them at (104).

By 8:30 Betsy, Mark and Robert were leaving to take Robert to the Trimble Recreational Facility Park in Trimble County.  Robert was supposed to run at 11:30, but the race was running about 45 minutes behind.  Since we knew we were going to be there all morning and half the afternoon, it really didn't bother us.  If it had been the week before - it would have been a disaster.  Just before the boys ran, the High school boys arrived.

Devon had to drive himself to the high school to ride the bus with his team.  His team would be running  at 1:15.

The race finally started and Robert had a great start.  This is considered a moderate to difficult coarse.  There are several hills, ruts, and gullies.  It goes deep into the woods and then comes back out.  Everything went as expected - Logan, Alex, Matthew and then Robert …

Robert pushed himself to stay with Matthew - push him hard

Robert was right on Matthew's tail the entire race.  Right behind him - by one to three seconds at most.  This photos is just after the one mile mark.

Robert on the down hill stretch

On a straight away where he can catch his breath.

Coming back for the last 800 meters

With only 400 more to go

At the finish line

Go Robert!!!!  In the end Robert ran a PR of 14:52 on a course that should have increased his time by 32 seconds.  That's awesome!!!!

Robert finished 4th for his team.  It was Logan 1st, Alex 2nd, Matthew 3rd, Robert 4th and Max Miller 6th.  Max did great to keep up with Robert and if he could have taken 5th we would have had a perfect score, but we only missed it by 1 point.  The NOMS boys look fantastic!!!
