Marissa takes 5th place at the Dragon Invitational

The girls Varsity race was the last race of the day starting at 6:50 so that when they finish they finish under the lights on the track.  It's similar to the South Oldham Sundown track Invitational.  It's a weird way to have a race.  The girls essentially can't do anything all day to keep their energy and strength.

The girls Varsity team got a great start.  Shelby and Maggie jetted out while Christina, Alli and Marissa are a pace behind them.  It is an interesting course.  The girls start out in a field and race towards open doors to the track.  They do 3/4 of the track back onto the field which takes them out into the woods.  There they pass the 1 mile mark and return to the track for another 3/4 loop to be close to the 2 mile mark.  Then they have a short loop in the field to return for the finish on the track.

Christina, Ally and Marissa at the start

This is Marissa and Maggie in good position after the first lap on the track.

These are the three runners from South that are our biggest competition.  They are Erin Wilson, Grace Whitworth and Keightley Dudgeon.  You can see Marissa is right behind them with the second runner from Oldham County.

Marissa leads the way for NOHS into the track for the second loop.

Marissa looks strong and confident at the 2 mile mark.  Here she looks very relaxed.

Coming into the track for the last and final lap, Marissa looks great!  She's had a fantastic race.

Marissa crosses the finish in 5th place with a time of 20:24.  Two OC runners and two SO runners are before her.  Maggie finishes 9th, Shelby 10th, Ally 12th and Alli Keeler in 18th.  We were missing Erin Edmondson (our first runner).

As a team they finished 3rd, but it was a huge victory for the NOHS girls.  We were only 10 points behind SO - leading champion in our division.
We will battle them and Highland at State for the State Championship.
