General Conference is made up of 4 (5 when you count the priesthood session) 2 hour conference sessions where we, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints get to hear directly from the leaders of our church. General Conference happens twice a year - always on the first weekend in April and the first weekend in October. This year was the 182nd General Conference.
Mark, I and the kids were away at cross country meets for the first or Saturday morning session. While we are on the coarse at Trimble Jessica texts us saying the General Conference is "Blowing her Mind". I text back that we could not watch due to the meet, please tell what is blowing your mind. Then she text back that the mission ages have just been changed:
Boys can start on a mission at the age of 18 and girls can start a mission at 19. This news has sent a shock wave through the BYU and LDS community. Several of our friends have already said their 18 year old sons will apply immediately to go on their mission. James Cluff, Jake Matheson, etc.
After thinking about it, we (Devon, Mark and I) felt that we would still like Devon to wait until he is 19 and leave after his first year at college.
Marissa and I had to miss the second session of conference so we could volunteer at Creasey Mahan. I wasn't happy about missing but it is for a good cause! Devon, Mark and Robert watched the second session and then Devon came up to Creasey to volunteer.
Mark and Robert went to the Priesthood session at the Crestwood Stake Center.
Today we were able to watch both sessions. It is always such a treat to hear inspiring words - sometimes reminders and sometimes something sounds fresh and new - but always things that can bring us closer to Christ!
