It's so hard to be away from my children when it comes to their birthdays. We've always celebrated and had fun with it, but this year Devon is away at BYU.
I sent him a package a week before his birthday, and then I sent him a second one because I wanted him to have something to open and enjoy.
The first package was a card, a DVD (he requested from home) and a note letting him know we would be buying all of his missionary clothing as his birthday present. BUT, it seemed anti-clamatic since he wouldn't actually be opening a present ... SO, I quickly went to the store and bought him his favorite treats and favorite gum and wrapped that up and sent it to him so he would have it by his birthday (paid extra) :).
I called him and texted him throughout the day, and really wanted to Skype him, but he said he'd have to do it later because he had to study for a BIG test. He will celebrate with his friends this weekend.
I felt bad - not much a special birthday for him, but I made sure he knew we LOVE him!!!
