Sundown Race

Tonight was the Sundown Invitational.  The meet was supposed to start at 5:00 but it didn't get underway until 5:30.  It is a very competitive meet held at Oldham County High School.  Some of the best runners in the state (Kentucky and Indiana) come to the meet.

Because the meet started so late, Marissa's coaches don't have any of the runners scheduled for the late races which include the 3200 m run and the 4x400 relay, so Marissa ran the mile.

The weather had been nice and warm earlier in the week, but today it was only 57 as a high, and as Marissa's race wasn't until after 7:30 pm so it was getting colder as the meet went on.  Betsy went over to find her just before the race to remind her to stretch and stay loose while on the start line.

The gun went off and Marissa had a good start.  She had a 1:22 first lap.  On the second lap she passed about four runners with a 1:26 second lap.

On the third lap she tired and was passed by two runners - she had 1:30 on the third lap.

On the forth lap she picked it up again with a 1:26 split.  She finished at 5:46.  She ran a great race but just can't seem to get back to her PR.  She felt like it was her third lap that she needs to improve on.
one more lap to go

a runner trys to pass her at the finish

Marissa sprinted to keep her place
