Regional Track Meet - Three Peat

If it isn't one thing then it's another.  Marissa hasn't had a healthy season.  At first she wasn't going to run track but then Grimm and Yanke talked her into it, mainly because I wasn't going to let her run the Louisville Marathon.

Starting at the Quad meet, Marissa got sick.  At first we thought it was a cold, but Betsy thought there was too much of a consistent pattern with her getting sick last year for it to be a cold.  She must have seasonal allergies.  Sure enough, once we put her on Claritin she started to feel better, but not 100%.

Well, the night before Regionals Marissa develops a sore throat while studying for her AP Goverment test which is in the morning of Regionals.  She's also stressing because her Guitar teacher scheduled a concert for the same night as Regionals and is threatening all the students that miss the concert and "0" for grade.  He can't do that but it's stressing her out.

The morning of Regionals Marissa is super sick.  She has to go to school to take the AP Gov test.  She calls me at lunch time asking me to bring her allergy medicine and Sudafed.  As soon as I get off work I rush over to NOHS with medicine.  She's been drinking water all day, but it hasn't really helped.  She takes the medicine as soon as she gets it, but she looks miserable.

Nicole and Marissa - great friends
At the meet she still feels terrible, but she warms up and prepares with Avery (also running the 3200).  She ran at 8:30 pm on the heals of a HUGE thunderstorm.  Coach Martin saw lightning before the race, and saw three flashes during her race.  Marissa ran a fantastic first mile - right with the top 4 (of course Gabi was way out front - then Avery, CAL and Marissa).  After the first mile Marissa became fatigued and tired.  She had a great race finishing in 5th with a time of 12:27, especially considering her pain.  She had hunched shoulders the 2nd half of the race.
