Karl Finds a Permanent Home

Today after school Karl is supposed to go to Mr. Atchison's, a teacher at NOHS for the fall break.  Mr. Atchison is Karl's Graphic Arts teacher.  Mr. Atchison has been interested in hosting Karl permanently but he lives outside the county which means Karl would have to pay the "Out of District" fee (nearly $3000).  That is just way too much money for Karl's family or the Atchison family to come up with, so he has been staying with us until he can find a permanent home.

With Marissa's health issues and Robert's soccer team in the Regional finals we are  not able to go away during this Fall break... so we thought it would be in Karl's best interest to spend the week with Mr. Atchison.  Mr. Atchison was very excited at the idea, and so was Karl.  WIN WIN situation.

Well, After Karl left for school on Thursday, I noticed that he had packed absolutely everything he owned and left it by his door.  So I texted him - he said Cindy told him to pack everything because he probably wouldn't be coming back.  WHAT????  No one told us this.

Karl left home without even saying good bye.  I couldn't believe it.  Not that I didn't expect him to take his gifts back so that he could give them to a permanent family, but he took his gifts back without telling me or allowing me to return them to him.  WOW!

Well, it was inevitable, and expected - I guess just not like this.  So long story short.  Karl will stay with Mr. Atchison for Fall break and after until Christmas break (and hopefully after that).  The CIEE organization found some money to cover tuition for the remaining two months in this calendar year (Nov & Dec).  After that, who knows, but as for us Karl no longer lives here.

Best wishes to Karl.  He was a delightful and very pleasant young man.  We enjoyed having him stay.
