Spring Break in Key West Florida

We really looked forward to a break from everything that was going on at home!  Betsy had just finished her bachelor degree courses and final exams.  Robert was working hard towards AP classes, and Varsity tennis.  Mark was working hard at Flex.

Betsy booked a vacation for spring break in Key West Florida - we wanted to get away somewhere where it was guaranteed amazing weather and warm beaches.  She researched out the beaches in Florida, but couldn't find a place that she liked.  She decided to fly Robert, Mark and herself to Key West.  We had never been there and it was 10 degrees warmer with no rain in the forecast!  She even went so far as to google satellite view the beaches to see if the beach was right next to the hotel.  She made reservations at the Sheraton - which was right across the street from the best beach on the island!!!  We left first thing in the morning - had a layover in Washington DC, and then KEY WEST!

Key West was wonderful.  We had a fantastic suite - Robert had his own room, and Mark and I had our own room.  We had the garden view, easy walk to the pool, and an easy walk to the beach.  It was perfect.  The weather was fantastic too.

Our first day there we shad to wait for our room before getting settled in.  After settling in, we took a walk on the beach, and then took the bus to the historic district.  We explored the beautiful place.  We found a delicious Thai restaurant and decided to eat there!  After dinner we walked to the harbor to view sunset.  Yachts were coming back to port from a day in the gulf.  There atmosphere at the harbor was amazing - there was live music, entertainment and even a fire breathing show.

The shows were great:

The next day I enjoyed the sunshine on the beach while Mark and Robert went to play tennis.  It was a breezy day, but the sunshine felt wonderful.  After a few hours, Mark and Robert joined me on the beach.  We also played with the football and Frisbee.  I enjoyed the sun, cool drinks and a good book!  This is the life!

Jogging in 90 degree heat - yikes

Together forever

Later in the evening, Mark and Robert went to work out at the hotel while I went for a long jog along the beach and edge of the water.  I jogged all the way to the airport and back.  I must confess, it was so hot, it was a hard jog!

Day 3 was beautiful!!!  The sun was shining bright, the breeze was gentle and the waves were perfect.

Wind surfing - great day for it

what a beautiful pool

The third day we went back to the beach and rented a sail boat.  What a blast.  We took it out for over an hour sailing in the Gulf of Mexico.  Each of us took turns sailing the catamaran.  What an exhilarating feeling; flying through the water like a bird in the sky.  We had a great time!!!

We had a great time sailing the Keys

Strawberry Daquari (virgin) are the best at the pool

The last night we went to a Japanese steak house for dinner before catching our flight.  The dinner was fantastic!  Unfortunately, our flight off the island was delayed due to bad weather on the Mainland.  We changed our flight so we could get home a little sooner, but we still had to sit and wait a long time at both airports.  We finally made it to Louisville after midnight!  It was good to be home, but sad to be away from such wonderful weather and opportunities.

Betsy even looked into the prices of places there - hopeful for retirement - they were way too high!!!
