First meet of the season is the Tiger Run

Oh my gosh!!!  I can't believe this day has come - that Marissa is running her last Tiger Run.   She is a senior this year running her last high school season. She is so excited for this season especially after last year where she got injured for the majority of the season.

We arrived at the Tiger Run early around 9 AM so she and her team could get a good warm-up before the race. The weather is really nice -  it's going to be a hot day but she'll be running at a pretty good time - her race starts at 10:15 AM.

There are 10 girls running the varsity race:  Erin Edmundson, Marissa Lowe, Christine Ausley, grace Dieterle, Kendall Lemons, Emma Brazeau, Katie Walker, Kelsey Hall, and Kenzie Mullin.

Mark gave Marissa his traditional "before race talk."  He told her to really sprint to the middle so she didn't get stuck in a bad position.

The gun went off and the girls sprinted for a good start. Erin and Marissa were way up in the front.  At the 1 mile mark Marissa looked great;

 at the 2 mile mark she had really made up sometime and passed quite a few runners.

It was right around the 2 mile mark that Marissa had caught up to Erin Wilson, a girl that runs for South Oldham high school and that used to be in Marissa's Brownie troop. They have known each other for a very long time and have had to run against each other at several XC and track events.  Marissa passed her at that point and increase the distance between them by quite a bit.

By the finish Marissa had moved into 13th place and finished with her best time ever at the Tiger of 20:48.

Way to go Marissa!!!!!

As a team the girls finished in 5th place against all other AAA teams.  WAY TO GO Lady Mustangs!

One of the best things about the Tiger run is the fire truck spraying water after the races. The girls had a ball playing in the water. It took forever to get them to come out but I'm sure it felt refreshing after such a long and hot run.
