Robert Runs in the Trinity Race

Robert was happy to be able to sleep in Saturday morning.  The rest of his cross country team loaded the bus at 7:15 am and headed to Tom Sawyer Park, but because we live so close to Tom Sawyer and because Robert is on two sports teams this season (soccer and XC) his XC coach let him gain an extra few hours of sleep.  Robert got to the course around 9:40 to see the JV and Varsity race, his race is at 11:40.  He had a good warm up and was ready to run.  There were only 4 freshman running from North Oldham, Robert's goal is to be in the top 25 overall and 2nd for the team.

The gun goes off, unfortunately the course is really muddy and slippery causing Robert to slip on the very start, but he worked hard to get back into position.

Robert looking strong at the 1.5 mile mark

This is Robert's 1st 5K race.  He really doesn't want to do it because he hasn't been practicing with the team, so he knows he's not in the same condition and shape as everyone else, but we know he'll do fine!  Nobody is expecting him to be as fit as the others, but this will help keep him up there with them.

Still strong - around the 2 mile mark (just short of it)

There is tough competition - it seemed at every point we could see Robert there were runners right there with him.
Going for a strong finish
giving it everything he has
The St. X runner passes Robert while Robert passes two other runners, but then the St. X runner slips in the mud just before the finish.  Robert avoids the mud and finishes in front of him.  It's so unfortunate for the St. X runner - he had a great race.

At the finish!!!
Robert came in 25th place at the Trinity Valkyrie Invitational race with a time of 19:18 for his first 5K.  So proud of you!!!
