Tuesday's Oldham County All Comer

Right after school the girls and boys track teams load the buses and head for Oldham County High School - just like last Friday.

And just like last Friday, they are not running the 4x800 meter relay so Marissa will finally have the chance to run the 1 mile and the 2 mile in the same meet.  She is so excited and, honestly so are Mark and I.

Betsy arranged car pool for Robert so that she could be at the meet for both events.  She didn't want to miss anything!!!

Marissa's race is moved up to immediately after the 4x100, which was moved up to 5:30.  The gun goes OFF.  The runners are in motion.  Marissa had a great starting position and held her own on the outside.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong at this point in the race because Marissa has maintained her position in the top 10 and she looks very determined.  What I didn't see and what I didn't know is that she was tripped around the 200 mark of the first lap and sprinted the entire next 200 to regain her spot in the top 10.  WOW,  she ran so hard.

By this time I can tell that Marissa is off because she is usually closer (if not ahead) of this girl from OC) but I still don't know about the fall.  Marissa ran such a great race!

Here is where you can really tell something happened, because her last lap was slower than normal and Shelby Adams actually came up from behind and passed her right at the last second.  Marissa still scored in the top ten with a time of 5:52.
After the race I went up to her to see if she was okay, and that is when I found out about her being tripped, her falling, landing backwards and then sprinting to catch up.  I felt so bad for her.  She was scraped up on her knee, hip and hands.

One thing is for certain, Marissa is now completely geared up for the 2 mile.  The only problem is she didn't get a snack right after the 1 mile and the events went by fast (less teams in this meet) - so the 2 mile came at 8:30 instead on 9:15.  The other challenge to this race was that there were about 10 boy runners and only 5 girl runners.  Marissa, once again, got a great start to the race, but with all the boys she got pushed to the outside until it thinned out.
First lap

There was only one girl runner ahead of her the entire race.  Marissa ran a strong race, but it wasn't her set times.  Again, we could tell something wasn't right.  Was it from the fall, was it the boys???
Second Lap

Each lap she puts more distance between her and the other girl runners.
Third Lap

Fourth Lap
In the back ground you can see the different boy runners - her she is running with Trenton Fryman.  She is running a 1:32-1:35 pace.  She wanted to be running a 1:30 pace.
Fifth Lap

Sixth Lap

Seventh Lap

Finish!!! 12:32
What amazes me is that Marissa looks just as calm and composed on the last lap as she did on the first lap.  After the race we found out that she got a cramp in the first lap.  She said it was from eating her cliff bar too close to the race - she expected it to be another 45 minutes later.  We learned a big lesson.  We also need to take into consideration that it was also after running the one mile.

Great race.  The NOHS team took 1st place again at this race.  Marissa scored points in both her races.
