I was driving around looking for a job for Robert and myself at the same time, I had dropped off resumes previously at ALoft, Marriott Residence Inn and Marriott Courtyard, and the Drury Hotel. No one responded. I also had posted several resumes for jobs on Monster.com and Indeed.com, but couldn't find the job where I was the right match. I was frustrated and disappointed that I had spent the last year and a quarter improving my education in order to get a better management job, but in reality - I felt like I was still the 50 some odd year old woman that has been out of work for several years looking to come back.
Well, in one last attempt at the hotel industry, I went to drop off her resume at the Holiday Inn Express. I wasn't dress appropriately. I was in jeans, a nice shirt and a jacket (but still not professional quality). I was asked to stay. I interviewed with Eric ... Eric said I want you to interview with Debbie. I interviewed with Debbie and was hired on the spot. YIKES! I wasn't counting on that.
I started on Thursday! I hadn't planned to start work until after Robert's graduation.
I started on the front desk as a Front Desk clerk. Although Debbie and Eric knew I was capable of so much more, I needed to learn the system and the operations of the hotel before being moved to management.
I excited to start a new career, but I'm also apprehensive - wondering if this is the right one.
