Working temp jobs

Well I’m looking for full-time employment I decided to apply for temporary work as well. I signed on with a temporary agency hoping that I could find a temp to permanent job within my skill set. I have been lucky to have a two week assignment at Independence Title - just before we went on vacation. For the past two days I had a two day assignment which was nice. Starting Monday I have a two month assignment which seems a little long but I’m grateful for the work.  My two month assignment is at Capitol City Insurance.

Betsy's NEW Job

I was driving around looking for a job for Robert and myself at the same time, I had dropped off resumes previously at ALoft, Marriott Residence Inn and Marriott Courtyard, and the Drury Hotel.  No one responded.  I also had posted several resumes for jobs on Monster.com and Indeed.com, but couldn't find the job where I was the right match.  I was frustrated and disappointed that I had spent the last year and a quarter improving my education in order to get a better management job, but in reality - I felt like I was still the 50 some odd year old woman that has been out of work for several years looking to come back.

Well, in one last attempt at the hotel industry, I went to drop off her resume at the Holiday Inn Express.  I wasn't dress appropriately.  I was in jeans, a nice shirt and a jacket (but still not professional quality).  I was asked to stay.  I interviewed with Eric ... Eric said I want you to interview with Debbie.  I interviewed with Debbie and was hired on the spot.  YIKES!  I wasn't counting on that.

I started on Thursday!  I hadn't planned to start work until after Robert's graduation.

I started on the front desk as a Front Desk clerk.  Although Debbie and Eric knew I was capable of so much more, I needed to learn the system and the operations of the hotel before being moved to management.

I excited to start a new career, but I'm also apprehensive - wondering if this is the right one.

Robert got a job

On Tuesday Robert interviewed at Tinseltown. On Thursday they asked Robert to come back for a second interview. On Friday Robert was hired. Robert now is the fourth child to work at Tinseltown from the Lowe home.   We are so proud of him. He will start work Monday and Tuesday training and then his first shift will be this weekend with the Star Wars Premier.

Two Interviews in One Month

So I couldn't believe that Monday morning I was having another interview - I was only fishing for jobs, but then I got the one - part time - perfect for my current wants and needs - and then they tempt me with a full time job.

So my interview was at 10:00 am.  I was there at 8:00 to work, worked until 9:30 when they called me in early - since I was there and since they already had my resume and knew me.

Steve did most of the talking and the main interest was if I was interested in full time.  It's a challenge to change and I have so much to consider.

During the school year it will only be a slight challenge - spring - days that practice is early, but during the fall Marissa and Robert will go to seminary at 6:45 am - then school starts at 8:45 (check). I will work from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  School gets out at 3:45 but they will both have practice from 4:00 - 6:00 after school!  PERFECT!!

Then on game days - games don't start until 6:00 - PERFECT!!

One thing that will have to change is I will HAVE to get to bed earlier!!!

I will be like the office manger/accounts payable/receptionist person.  One thing they mentioned is that they are looking for someone long term - not just a year or two here!

I'm in a good position because this job isn't something that we NEED, it's something to help with finances - weddings, repairs, unexpected things, new cars, etc.  So as long as I'm happy with the job and the people, I'm happy to stay there as long as needed.

On Friday I should find out if I got the job or not!  - here's waiting until Friday.

Jessica gets a job - now she needs a bike

Jessica had texted the night before saying she had some very exciting news, but that she would have to wait to tell me tomorrow (today).  So, all day I've anxiously awaited her phone call.  I'm working all week so I can't talk during the day.

Luckily she calls after school while I can talk.  She has three important things to share:

1) she got a new calling - VT Coordinator
2) she got a great grade on an exam (100%)
and
3) she got a new job - at the MTC - serving food.  She got the job just one day after Quinn entered the MTC.  She's so excited to work there!

We are so happy for her.  She is having such a wonderful experience at BYU.  This will definately make it a bit more challenging managing the time to work and the time it takes to get there.  Now, she needs a bike!

Small but Amazing Miracle

Well, today is Mark's last day at Flextronics - or so we thought.

Mark had his exit interview with the HR director at 2:30.  At the conclusion of the meeting he decided to return the laptop, instead of keep it, so he ask for a few minutes to remove some personal files.  Mark went to his office and started to remove files when the HR director appeared and asked him if she could speak with him again.  Once they got back to her office, she said that after further review and consideration, they would like to extend his exit date out for 30 more day.  Could he stay on until 3/23?

WOW!  That's great.  Another 30 days to find a job.  Another 30 days pay.  Another 30 days to take care of our financial needs.

What a wonderful blessing and miracle!

Devon got a Job at Tinseltown!

Devon got a job.  This is his first job outside the home!  We are so proud of him.

He filled out the application, took it in, and waited for the phone call that he didn't expect to come.

First time he tried.  It helped that his sister had already worked for Tinseltown, but Devon had to do his own interviews and he passed both (with flying colors).  This is so awesome.  He had his orientation on Tuesday, and starts Saturday.

Summer Job for Jessica

As of today at 10:00 am Jessica was job hunting.

As of 11:00 am this morning, Jessica had already had a preliminary interview at DQ and a request to come back at 2:00

As of 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, Jessica is employed.

After weeks of Mark and I telling her how hard the job market is, and how she should be searching for a job (before school got out), she looks at both of us in bewilderment - she got a job the first day she looked.

Now on to Devon.  He needs a job too!
