Season of Soccer

Well it's fall - and that means serious soccer in the Lowe home. Every Monday and Thursday are Devon's soccer practices, and every Tuesday and Thursday are Robert's soccer practices. Mix in Marissa's CC practices every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and add Jessica's basketball training on Tuesday and Thursday. Now bring on the church activities and karate lessons and you are sure to come up with a mom that is about to go crazy, or just give in and enjoy. I've chosen the latter - I have to, I don't want to go crazy at my age (maybe I'm already crazy and I am in denial).
Robert's team is having a great season. They work hard and play together as a team. They've lost 2, tied one and won 7. Robert has already scored three goals, and he mostly plays defense.

Devon's doing great in soccer as well, however his team has come up against some tough competition. They tied there first game 3-3, and lost the next three. We hope to break that streek this Friday & Saturday. Devon is a very strong defensive player, but can play up as needed.

Cross Country Continues!

Marissa is the fourth over from the left, she is just about to pass two girls.
Making a sprint for it at the finish line! Marissa with her 2nd medal!

Marissa had another fabulous meet. She has run in every cross country meet for NOMS this year. At this meet Marissa improved her time by 30 seconds. Marissa ran a 2K in 9 minutes. The following weekend she ran a 3K in 14:05. She has come alive.

Okay this is going too far...

I can't believe this!
Okay, this is just too much for me. UNBELIEVABLE! First, Jessica's finger is broken playing basketball - Then Marissa's arm is broken playing soccer, then while in Cancun we noticed something stange regarding Mark's shoulder, then (yes I know this is a run on) Robert had to get six stitches - now today while I am typing this with a broken finger. Yesterday I played goalie in a soccer game, and someone kicked the ball hard with my fingers only a fraction of an inch from the ball. OUCH! Still I can't complain, but I would like to say if it were up to me, "I've have enough injuries to last a while."
What was really funny was the doctor's expression. When I went to his office, he kept looking through my file (very thin). I said, "Hi, it's me again..."
He didn't understand how he could recognize my face so easily, but have such a thin file. That is when I explained that I am the mother of four active children; he had seen me while treating them.
I guess I'm over my initial shock, but why did it have to be my left hand...no way!

Huricane IKE hits Louisville

Huricane Ike wasn't supposed to hit Louisville, Kentucky with winds at 75 mph, but he did. We didn't get any rain, however the destruction has been devistating to witness. Over 250,000 people are without power, trees are down everywhere. Just in my neighborhood alone there were 42 trees down on the way to my house. We were one of the blessed to only be without power for 10 hours. Most of Louisville and its surrounding towns are expected to be without power for 10-14 days. We lost some shingles off our roof and had to replant a tree but other than that we were untouched.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by the power of this storm.

Arsenal Assends!

U14 - OCYSA Arsensal!

Wow, I'm so excited for Devon, but also me. What am I talking about? Today was the first soccer game of the season for Devon's team. The funny thing is, that it was also my first game coaching his team. I think I was more nervous than him. Devon played a great defensive game. The final score was 3, 3. I'm so glad it ended this way. Last year, Devon's team didn't win a single game; they actually only scored one goal. This season we have new players with more skill and speed. It was great to start the season off on a positive note. Way to go Devon!

Cross Country Rocks for Marissa

Marissa ready to run for North Oldham Middle School's CC team
The Cross Country Team at NOMS is rocking this season. Two weeks ago the black team took 3rd place and the teal team (Marissa's team) took 5th. Last week the girls and boys team took 1st place!!!
Marissa has been working hard to improve her time and pace. Yesterday she ran a 6:46 mile run. WooSH! That's way faster than me.

Friends Forever

Kathy and Betsy
Susannah and Jessica
Marissa and Scarlett
Best Friends Forever

During the summer, we had some very dear friends come back to Kentucky for a visit. Kathy was my best friend while she lived here, and Jessica and Marissa's are best friends with her two daughter's. It was so wonderful to be reunited. They used to spend almost every minute together when Susannah and Scarlett lived here, and as soon as they were back, the girls were inseperable again. There were a million more giggles that weekend, more splashed in the pool, and definitely more girls staying up too late (hey, it's the summer). It's great to see the girls so close. I believe they will be live long friends.

Jessica was very excited to introduce the "Twilight" series to her friend. Oh-no, another girl hooked on the series.

Spectacular Soccer Day

Robert with the foot moves.
Taking the ball up the field.
Total Control...
Today was "away" soccer day. Robert's team played the Frankfort Fury in Frankfort at 11:00. They played a great game. The first goal of the game was won by Robert Lowe. He was back on defense - received the ball and dribbled up - ready to pass, but never needed to - he took the ball all the way to the goal and scored. I was so excited for him! The was one moment in the game I stood in shock. The other team had a corner kids, and Robert protected the goal by heading the ball (from the goal) out of bounds. This is while he still has stitches. NO worries! The final score was tie 2-2.

The second game of the day was against MUSA in Madison, Kentucky. Robert's team faced an even more challenging team and won, 1-0. Robert played great defense. One of his best friends made the winning goal early on in the game.

I love watching Robert play soccer because he loves it so much. He is so focused and dedicated to his team. He works hard for himself, his coach and his team. Go Thoroughbreds!

Pictures to be posted tomorrow.

Unbelievable - No way can this be happening!

Okay, I am about to give up. After taking care of Jessica's broken finger, and Marissa's broken arm this summer, I thought "for sure" nothing else could happen. Right? Wrong. On Labor Day Monday, our family went to the pool to enjoy the spoils of the last day of summer. It was a beautiful day (unlike last year). Everyone was doing there thing...Betsy talking to friends poolside, Jessica reading a book and tanning, Devon enjoying nachos, Marissa with her friends, and Robert (outside the pool) tossing the football with his dad (inside the pool). Consistently, whenever Mark and Robert do this other boys join in the fun. That day was no exception, except this time Robert jumped up to catch the ball and in all the activity fell face first into the concrete. Yes, my stomach is just as sick while I write this as it was at that very moment when I looked over to see him face down. Luckily, he was concious! Unluckily, he had a gash above his eye that required six delicate stitches. Robert and I spent the rest of our Labor Day in the Urgent Care center getting him fixed. I was so scared for him. He had to be so brave. They had to give him a long shot of numbing medicine (I could tell it hurt him terribly, but he didn't flinch at all). Then I held him while the doctor carefully stitched ever so closely to his eye. He is black and blue on his check, eye and forehead. I just feel so terrible for him. Upon reflection (and not trying to be too deep, but) as a mother, I think I felt every ounce of pain he felt. It's a mother thing I guess. Even after Robert felt fine, I didn't want him to leave my side for the longest time. On a lighter note, I'm finished - I insist (as if) NO MORE INJURIES!!!
