3v3 Super Saturday

LET'S GO MATHLETES!!!!

Robert is playing in the 3v3 tournament with his friends, Aaron Green and Ryan Danehy.  They have also invited some other soccer players from St. Xavier - PJ, Brandon, and Oliver Hine.

Well, we were all excited for the 3v3 tournament to start.  We were scheduled to have our first game at 3:00 pm on Saturday followed by a 5:00 pm game ... but all that changed Friday night with a phone call at 8:12 pm.

THE SCHEDULE CHANGED.

We were supposed to have a game at 7:00 pm - OGM!!!  The phone call was after our game.  What happened ... how did we not know there was a schedule change?

We were able to get it all worked out ... The new schedule also had us down for a game at 8:30 am on Saturday - no problem, then they rescheduled the game we missed last night for a game at 2:30 pm and then we still had our 3:00 pm game.  We will have games back to back, but that's okay - at least we didn't have to forfeit our first game.

If Noelle didn't call we would have missed two games...  thank goodness she called.

Brandon, Robert, Aaron, PJ, Ryan and Oliver
Our first game of the day was at 8:30 am vs the OSC team.  It was a great game.  Right from the start we dominated the game.  PJ scored first, then Ryan.  2-0.  Ryan had another but they said he was in the box.  PJ scored the third goal and then Robert scored the fourth goal and Ryan scored the fifth to make it 5-0 at half time.  After the very short half, OSC came back and scored three, then Robert was subbed back in and scored immediately on a beautiful one touch-score goal.  OSC scored so the score is now 6-4.  Brandon scored our last goal and OSC got one more in - game ended 7-5.   A win.

Going for the steal
Our second game of the day was at 2:30 pm vs the Victorious Secrets.  It is a coed team with 3 girls and 3 guys.  They are older but we are a good match.  VS scored first, but Oliver fired back with a goal 1-1.  Aaron scored a nice goal but then VS scored 2-2.  Robert scores but VS scored too, 3-3.  Then VS and Brandon scored 4-4.  Oliver scored again and VS countered with their own goal 5-5.  This game went back and forth the whole game - it's going to boil down to a single goal was what I was thinking but then VS scored 2 in a row while Robert was out.  The pressure is on - and we rise.  Robert makes a great assist to Ryan for another goal 7-6 - and Brandon scored so we are right back in it 7-7, but now there is less than a minute to go. Unfortunately, we let up on defense and VS scored the winning goal.  We tried to get one in the last 30 seconds of the game, but just couldn't get one in the goal.  Great job by the guys.  Ending score 7-8.

Bam - now we have another game against, probably, the best team in the tourney ... Javanon 99 (Mason, Parker, Nathan, and Mathew).  The third game of the day was immediately at 3:00 vs Javanon 99.  Unfortunately, we look a little tired from the last game, and Javanon 99 is playing their first game of the tournament.  We will play strong!!!  Robert didn't start this game because he finished the last game.  Javanon scored 2 goals before Robert got in.  Once Robert was in he scored a goal 2-1.  Then Brandon scored 2-2.  Then Javanon scored two 4-2, that was the score at half time.  After the half Ryan scored, then Robert scored again - we are tie again 4-4.  Javanon got right back in it with a goal 5-4.  That's when Robert went out.  Jananon scored again 6-4, but Ryan came back with another goal 6-5, but Javanon ended the game with a last goal making it 7-5.  We were close - it was a very good game.

Robert's 3v3 Team - Speed of Light

Not to give it away BUT the boys did awesome - living up to their name.  It's a great group of guys this year…Robert, Aaron Green, Ryan Danehy, Trent Stigler  (friends from NOMS and Aaron has been Robert's best friends since we moved to KY), and a friend from St. X PJ Roadah (don't know the spelling of his last name).  Anyway - these 5 are the TEAM!!!

Against 5 Guys + 1
Game #1:  Verses team FIVE GUYS (their friends from NOHS Soccer) @ 8:00 am

Robert's team was unstoppable.  They played an amazing game and just held super positioning and focus.  Their passes were on and their shots were perfect.  They won the game 16-1.

Game #2:  Verses team LEXINGTON @ 12:30 pm

The guys on the Lexington team look to be at least one if not two years older than our freshman.  It's a HS league so it's anything from 14-18 years of age.  This game is much more competitive and the Lexington team has a strong defense.  The score was 1-1 when … Unfortunately, 4 minutes into this game the power to the whole sports complex was cut - actually the power to the whole area was lost.  We waited around for about an hour before they announced that the complex wouldn't have power for another hour.  We decided to leave and get some food.  The game started again at 2:30.  We held a very competitive game through half time 4-3 (down by one).  But then Lexington defended all our shots; one after another.  A shot that would have been beautiful was skillfully blocked just in the nick of time … our boys started to get frustrated and lost focus.  We fell behind.  The game ended 10-4.  That will cost them the championship opportunity.

Game #3:  Verses team MANUAL

This game should be like our second game.  They are bigger guys and seem to be at least a year older.  The boys will have to work together to win this.  WOW!  It was a great game.  Our boys started out strong and scored a goal immediately.  Then again … it was great.  The score at half time was ? - ?  The Final score was 8-4 (we let them have a last shot which they nailed).

3v3 Tournament - Fantastic FINALISTS

What a great tournament!

It all started back in November when Eric Kirby's mom asked me if Robert would like to play on a 3v3 team with Erik.  We immediately said yes.  Some background info:  Robert and Eric have been playing 3v3 together since 2009, except for last year when Robert was out with his torn ACL.  The first two years their team were 3v3 Champions!  They were named RockStars (for Coach Rock)  They loved it!  The third year they were Mr. Pet; they didn't make it to the championships (oops).  Then last year, Robert couldn't play.

This year they were called "Bazinga!"  The team is Eric Kirby, Robert Lowe, Tyler Scholten, and Ben Carper.  These boys played together back when they played U10 and U11 for Thoroughbreds.

The first game was at 8:30 am on Saturday morning against a team called Success!  The boys clobbered the team.  We won 12-4, it was 12-3 until the very last second when Tyler thought it wouldn't matter because the buzzer was going off as the Success scored a goal because he walked away from defense.  No big deal!  Robert scored at least 3 goals (I lost track) which is a hat-trick.

The boys were suppose to have an 11:00 am game, but the team we were supposed to play cancelled so that left the time open.

----

The next game was against a team called "Those Guys" but it really was the Legends team - all of Robert's friends - Holden Thompson, Ryan Danehy, Wil Stone, ???

We dominated the game (both halves).  The final score was 6-0 SHUT OUT!  Robert had another hat-trick.  Wahoo!!!

Because they won that game, their next game was at 12:30 pm.  That didn't give Robert very much time between games.  This time they played a team called Loco Poco (bright orange shirts).  This game was so consistent.  Robert scored the first 2 goals!  Go Bazinga!  The first half the score was 4-1, the second half added the same points per team.  Final score 8-2:  Bazinga wins and Robert had another hat-trick.

Now they play at 2:00 for the Semi Finals.  They play a team called Hachi-Hachi.  This was the most competetive game we've played so far in the tournament.  It is the U13 Premier team.  The game went back and forth 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 5-3, 7-5, then Hachi Hachi caught up and it was tied 8-8 at the end.  We had to go to sudden dead overtime.  We won on an error of the other team.  It was a sad way to win the game but it was fair.  We advance to play the Hippies at 4:00.

At 4:00 they boys are playing their fourth (4th) game of the day.  I'd say that 's a bit much, but what I say doesn't really matter.  Robert, Ben, Eric and Tyler are doing great.  The score is very even 1-1, 2-1 ... then Ben goes down and doesn't get up.  When he does get up he says he's fine, but he can't run and allows another goal.  He is really hurt and Rick takes him out.  We are all very concerned for him, because it would take a lot for Ben to be out.  That leaves only the three guys to play the rest of the game.  They are doing great.  Robert scored the first goal, then scored the second.  It's 2-2, then Eric scores for us so we are up!  AWESOME!!  3-2.  Following the the Hippies score tieing up the game with only 2 minutes left.  Robert scores again - giving him a hat-trick.  He's had an hat-trick in every game this tournament.  The hippies follow it up with a quick goal.  It looks like it's going to be a tie, but we miss a block and the Hippies score again.  The Bazingas work hard but then right before the buzzer they allow another goal.  Final score 6-4.  The Hippies won this one, but we fought hard.  Rick said they boys just got tired.  It was unfortunate that one got past Eric with only 30 seconds and another one got in right at the buzzer, but that is how it goes.
