Regional Semi-Finals vs Anderson County

After beating Simon Kenton NOHS now plays Anderson for a sudden death regional tournament.

This is the second regional playoff game for NOHS.  This is such an important game.  These games are do or die.  You do not advance if you do not win.

Both teams lined up for the Regional semi-final

Starting line up.

Robert taking control

Ryan Geoghegan scored our first goal.  Robert Lowe assisted Mason Rice with the second goal.  We are up 2-0.

CRAZY.  Then it's like NOHS let up.  Somehow we let Anderson score 2 goals fairly quickly.  YIKES.  The score is tied 2-2.

Halftime 2-2

In the second half, Robert took control.  He scored the first goal, and then scored anther goal to lock up the game.  4-2.  Conner Frazee crossed to Robert for the last goal.

Robert - determined!

Regional Playoff Game vs Simon Kenton

Simon Kenton is an hour and a half away north up interstate 71.  Robert had to be at the school by 5:45.  I ordered a pizza from Dominos for him, because I was tutoring and couldn't make him dinner.  Ms. Frazee took him to the school so I could finish tutoring and so that we wouldn't have to pick up his car after the game.

Mark and I left the house around 6:10 to get to the game. The game started at 8:00 pm.  Robert started on the right wing.

NOHS won the toss and possessed the ball from the start.  It hadn't even been 3 minutes when Robert crossed the ball to the center, it bounced around and came back to him - he took the shot and SCORED.  GGGOOOOAAAALLLL!  The whole team went crazy!!!  Kaleb came all the way from the back to chest pump Robert!  Robert played the left side of the field when Conner came in.  The Simon Kenton players played dirty and the ref let play get out of hand.  The first yellow card was called against Blake on a defensive play.  The second yellow card was issued to a SK player against Robert.  He fouled Robert just outside the box, and then kicked Robert while he was down.  The ref saw it and carded him.  From there it only got worse.  Robert played most of the first half; he was only out  of the first half for about 6 minutes.

The rest of the first half we dominated the game but didn't score.  Half time was 1-0.

Goal #2 was Robert crossing to Conner and a defender put it in the net.
Robert started second half.  He had the ball down the left line and crossed it to Conner.  Conner missed the ball, but the defender for Simon Kenton accidentally kicked it into the goal - SCORE!!!!  NOHS is up 2-0.  Mark wondered, "Does Robert get the assist?"  YES!!!!

The refs really did a poor job of controlling the game.  There was a point were SK and NOHS were getting out of hand.  SK started really attacking our players in desperation for being down 2-0.  At one point Matthew Morris fouled a SK player at the top of the box.  Matthew got a yellow card, and SK got a PK.  MAX was awesome - he punched it out!!!  SAVED!!!  Then Ian cleared it to Mo in mid field.  The goalie came out too far; Mo chipped it over the goalie and the ball, ever so slowly, rolled into the back of the net!!!  GGGGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!  3-0

End of game 3-0.

NOHS advances to the Regional Semi-finals tomorrow against Anderson County

From Marissa to Me

mom! Thanks for the package! Love all my scarves! We're there anymore! I remember I had a yellow one and a green one? So this week I've been pretty sick. I've really missed you because I remember all the times when I was sick at home you would take care of me! I'm doing a lot better now, I just cough a lot and have a lot of mucus but I'm okay! It's been a slow week but we are still trying to find more people! We never give up hope which is good! That's awesome about Robert and playing soccer! Hopefully he wins today!! That's funny there is a Logan page on Facebook! Sister Schultz said that there is one mom that brags about her son on there so please don't talk about me on there!:) That's cool you are talking to sister Schultz mom though! She is the third sibling in the family too and has two brothers and one sister! You are so lucky to get to see elder Stevenson!!! That is so cool!!! Did he speak in church, what did he speak about? That's great about Robert’s soccer team coming over! You always do like to throw parties! Love you always!! You're the best!

Marissa's Week 20 - she got sick :(

Hello everyone!
This week has been a bit rough! I have been sick all week which is not fun at all. The weather is changing, so of course I get sick. At the beginning of the week I just pushed through it but it's not as easy as I thought. Before when I got sick, I'd just go to school and then come home and rest. But being on a mission you are outside all day in the cold and have no time for naps or rest! I saw the mission nurse and the doctor and he told me I needed to stay at the apartment, take my antibiotic, and rest because I have bronchitis and have been coughing all week. So I've been watching a lot of gospel movies which is fun and I've been sleeping a lot, hopefully I'll get better soon.

Besides being sick, we had a cool week. One of the seventy, Elder Curtis, came to Logan for a mission tour. He spoke in conference a few weeks ago during the priesthood session which was pretty cool! He talked to us about Alma 5 and Ether 12! Such great chapters in the Book of Mormon by the way! He talked about daily repentance. Repentance isn't something bad, it is a gift that Jesus Christ has given us. Every time we repent we become more like Jesus Christ and can be perfected through him. This week I have repented daily even for the silliest things because I know that the atonement was done for me and I want to use it daily in my life.

We had some lessons this week too! We have been teaching this less active girl named Brie! She brings her non Mormon boyfriend to the lessons. This week we taught the plan of salvation to them (which is my favorite lesson to teach). He seemed very intrigued and it looked like he was thinking a lot. At the end of the lesson we asked Patrick to say the prayer and he said yes. In his prayer he asked for truth to be revealed, he asked to receive an answer if the Book of Mormon was true, and asked if the plan of salvation is God’s plan for us. It was the most sincere prayer I have ever heard. We were so happy after the lesson!

Last thing.... This Sunday we had stake conference! And President and Sister Allred (mission president) came to it. They asked us to sit on the stand with them, so we did. In the middle of President Allred's talk he asked for us to stand up and give the 4 minute restoration. We were super nervous because there were like 600 people there, but we did it, and I definitely felt the spirit so strongly. After stake conference so many people came up to us afterward saying how much they loved our message. This one girl came up to us and burst into tears and told us that our message just real pierced her heart. It took us 30 minutes to even get out of the big room! It was a great experience
and I'm so happy to be able to share the restoration with the whole YSA 3rd stake!

Well I hope all of your weeks went well! Just know that I love this gospel so much and it brings me so much joy even in the hard times!
Love you all!

Soccer Team Dinner at our House

So a simple misunderstanding turned into one of the best nights this soccer season.

I invited Ryan Geoghegan to come to dinner at our house because I was serving Chicken Parmesan.  Previously I had talked about having a Chicken Parmesan dinner for the team, but it never worked out... Ryan misunderstood my text to mean an initiation for the team ... so he put it out for the team.  In one minute, dinner changed from Mark, Robert, Ryan and I to - we are having 10 extra people for dinner.

Robert had to go to a stake committee meeting from 5:00 - 6:00 so he wouldn't be home until 6:20.  I told Ryan to come around 6:30.  He and a group of guys came at 6:00 - ugh!!!

Mark and I invited them up to play Ping-Pong or darts in the basement or play football or basketball outside.  They all had a great time waiting for Robert.

Mark and I were a great team.  We made linguine pasta, chicken parmesan, marinara sauce, Alfredo sauce, & crescents.  We had water bottles and chocolate milk.

We set up two long tables outside with
NOHS colored table clothes as decoration.  They all got whatever they wanted to eat.

Dylan Smith, Michael Raybine, Robert Lowe, Mo Mandoza, Drew Bailey, Mason Rice, Ryan Geoghegan, Wilton Stone, Nathan Clark and Matthew Morris - great men!!!
After dinner they played Frisbee, football toss, and basketball.

What a great night to spend time with his soccer buddies.  I felt so blessed to be able to welcome them to our home and treat them to a nice dinner.  They should have plenty of energy from the carbs for the game on Monday.

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP game vs OCHS

The days leading up to the district championship playoff was so exciting.

There were Twitter, Instagram and Facebook

Betsy hosted a pasta dinner at our house.  They ate and played basketball all night.  It was so fun.  (see other post)

On October 12, 2016 the District Championship Game took place!

This was such a great game by both teams.  They equally attacked and defended in the first half.  NOHS Dominated the second half.  Gray, Parker, Blake, Robert, Ryan and Mason all had shots on goal (13 in all to OCHS 8).  NOHS held OCHS to 0 goals as well.

 Second half

The game ended 0--0    Time for a PK shoot off

Jack Frazee and Dylan Smith both scored for us, but Grey Kinnison, Nathan Ball, and Ryan Geohegan didn't.  OCHS won the PK shoot out to win the game.

We are District Runner Up.

Luckily for NOHS both teams advance to the Region.  We are sad not to win this game, but sooo very happy we still advance.

Week 19 - slow

Hi everyone!
This week was good but just one of those really slow weeks. It started out really well though. First we met with this girl named Anna. She has met with missionaries for over a year and is still trying to figure out if the church is true. We put her on a baptismal date of
October 29th and she accepted! We are now just trying to build her faith and help her gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon and the prophet Joseph Smith. So that was a highlight in my week!

We also got a call from the Mesa, Arizona Elders that gave us a referral of their friend Zev who goes to USU. The thing is, is that, that night we ran into a guy named Zev on campus and taught him the restoration and it turns out that he was the guy the Mesa Arizona
elders were talking about! Small world right! We will be meeting with him again this coming week!! Yay!

Oh yeah and one day in our apartment during lunch time, Sister Schultz and I were in our room and then we just heard the fire alarm go off and it said "FIRE...Please leave the premises," we both looked at each other and ran for the door and then we just saw Sister Zheng just cooking her pot-stickers on the stove. We literally thought there was a fire and it turns out it was just Sister Zheng who seemed to not be alarmed at all at the beeping sound. Now every time we cook the fire alarm goes off and it is super annoying haha.

Also, apparently their are clowns going around here on campus where they scare people. So one day we knocked on a door and this girl barley cracked the door open and she said, "oh, you're not a clown... Hi sisters!" Yeah... So now I'm hoping we don't get attacked by a clown here haha!

This week we've contacted a lot of people but not many people are interested. Sometimes I think Utah missions are great because everyone already knows what Mormons are and have gone to the LDS church at some point in their life time with someone. But then there a lot of people with anti-Mormon feelings which is so sad that they won't even give the Book of Mormon a chance to see if it's the word of God. It truly makes me sad when people already reject something when they haven't even tried it out. I love this mission but it can definitely be hard at points even being surrounded by members of the church.

So that was my week sorry it wasn't as exciting as my other weeks. It's getting colder and colder here and people say that we might get snow in October which is crazy, but that's Logan for ya. I love you all and hope you all are doing well! I love being a missionary and I love this gospel with all my heart. It truly brings so much joy into my life that I would have never had without it.

DISTRICT GAME vs South Oldham

October 10 2016

Before the game started the boys did a special thing for the team Mom, Amy Vicich.  It was her birthday so Betsy made signs - each sign with a letter spelling out
H A P P Y .   B I R T H D A Y .  A M Y!

Starting line up
Playoff game vs South Oldham High School for the advancement to the District championship game.  Whomever wins this game advances to the district championship game.

Robert started again - as he has done every game this season except for the senior night.

The Huddle

Robert knows several players on the SOHS team.  He has to start up against one of them, Ryan Dodson (from Crestwood 2nd ward).

What a great game!!!  NOHS boys played hard, together and aggressive.   We out hustled South, but they gave it their all, too.

No one wanted to lose this game.  Robert had two shots on goal, they were saved by the goalie. Dylan Smith had a great shot, assisted by Mason Rice for the winning goal.  It was his defining moment in soccer.

NOHS WINS 1-0!!!!!

Play by play against Ryan Dodson where Robert comes out with the ball.

Robert steals the ball with Ryan in high persuit

Robert protects the ball

Robert shields and wins
